I loved this book! It was really great. My favourite character had to be the main character, Ted. Ted is a twelve-year-old boy who has a best friend named Moses. Moses works in a barber shop. Although Moses is an adult and Ted is a young boy, they get along quite well. I like Ted because he doesn’t always save the day. He gets scared and worried like a real twelve-year-old kid. He’s a three dimensional character.
Moses, Me and Murder is set in Barkerville in 1866. Barkerville is a small gold-mining town near William’s Lake on the mainland of BC. The main conflict of the book is the murder of Moses’ friend, Charles Blessing. This murder actually happened. Many characters in the book actually existed. I like the way Ann Walsh wrote this book so that it is scary in parts but not full of blood and gore. I recommend this book to ten to thirteen year olds who like mysteries and who are interested in BC history.
