Fifty years ago, the Young Naturalist Foundation launched OWL magazine in Canada for kids aged 8 to 12 (OWL is an acronym for “Outdoors and Wildlife”) to develop a love of the environment and scientific discovery in its readers. Since then, the company has become Owlkids and expanded its vision and mandate, launching two new children’s magazines—Chickadee in 1978 and Chirp in 1997— and a book division.
