This graphic novel is an account of the author’s experience of being stranded on the open sea ice with no water and very few supplies. Serapio’s snowmobile broke down on his way home from a fishing camp and so he had to rely on his survival skills until a search team could reach him four days later.

Classroom Connectons: How I Survived Four Nights On The Ice is a well-illustrated book that clearly highlights the knowledge, determination, and strength required to survive a life-threatening circumstance. This book might support class discussions about the value of traditional skills and knowledge, the development of personal stamina and accomplishments, and the characteristics of Arctic ecosystems. Notes on Inuktitut pronunciations are found at the end of the book.
