World Oceans Day: A Day To Celebrate Our Oceans.

On June 8th, World Oceans Day, people around the globe celebrate and honour the ocean, which connects us all.

Www.worldoceansday.org provides more information about how anyone can get involved with or host a World Oceans Day event and reminds us that healthy oceans are critical to our survival.

As stated on the World Oceans Day website, “the ocean is important because it:

  • Generates most of the oxygen we breathe
  • Helps feed us
  • Regulates our climate
  • Cleans the water we drink
  • Offers a pharmacopoeia of medicines
  • Provides limitless inspiration!”

Teachers can find a free Plastic Pollution Lesson Plan on the website (http://www.worldoceansday.org/plastic-pollution-lesson-plan), as well as other resources for teaching about protecting our oceans.

Be sure to check out Brenda Boreham’s article, “Water, A Most Precious Resource,” for more water resources as well: https://canadianteachermagazine.com/2017/09/15/water-a-most-precious-resource/
