Do you know students who want to improve their bird watching skills, broaden their experience, and maybe pursue a bird-related career? Bird-crazy teens who are serious about ornithology are invited to apply for the 2018 Young Ornithologists’ Workshop at Long Point Bird Observatory.
Each spring, Bird Studies Canada and Long Point Bird Observatory select six of Canada’s most promising young birders between the ages of 13 and 17 to receive the Doug Tarry Bird Study Award. The winners participate in a birding trip to Long Point, Ontario for the Young Ornithologists’ Workshop. The award covers all direct costs (recipients are responsible for transportation to and from Long Point).
The 2018 workshop will take place from Saturday, August 4 to Sunday, August 12. Participants receive hands-on training in field ornithology, including bird monitoring and banding, bird identification and museum specimen preparation, and participate in birding trips and guest lectures.
Applications are due by April 30.
