Rich, full-page photos of refugee children in Croatia, Hungary, Rwanda, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Slovenia, Greece, South Sudan, Kenya, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Niger complement the simple text from a children’s point-of-view wondering where they will live. Photos show groups of refugees walking long distances, children fetching water and playing games in camps (with tents or shanties for shelter), sleeping in streets or shared mattresses, and being children (smiling and having fun) despite the harsh realities of their life.
Classroom Connections: This book appeals to younger students because of the easy-to-read text. This book also appeals to older students because of the social/human geography aspect of refugees in the world. Great for: read alouds, especially in Social Studies or Geography lessons. Reading Comprehension Strategies: Making Connections, Asking Questions.
