Sizing Up Winter is the third book in the Math in Nature series by Lizann Flatt. This colourful picture book introduces young readers to the concepts of measurement and time while they are reading about a wide variety of animals in their natural habitats. The lyrical text, supported by the details in the cut-paper illustrations, invites lively discussion around intriguing questions such as: “Would a week be something a weasel would know?”

Curriculum Connections: Primary teachers will find that Sizing Up Winter supports curriculum goals in math, life science, art and language arts. A “Nature Notes” section at the back of the book provides additional information about the creatures highlighted on each page. A teacher resource guide, available at the Owlkids website, provides a detailed and interactive lesson plan for each page of the book.
